The second impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte has been formally withdrawn, as its proponents move to consolidate support behind a third filing with similar allegations.
On March 2, the House Committee on Justice approved the withdrawal after receiving a letter from Tindig Pilipinas retracting its complaint. The group earlier said it would focus on the third impeachment complaint, which it described as substantially aligned with the issues raised in the second case.
The move narrows the impeachment effort in the House of Representatives to a single active complaint. Supporters said consolidating behind one filing would avoid splitting votes and strengthen the push as proceedings move forward.
Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima and Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña also withdrew their endorsements of the second complaint in line with the shift.
Cendaña rejected claims that the decision signaled retreat. “Hindi ito pag-atras,” he said, stressing that the goal is to unify backing behind one complaint rather than divide support across parallel filings.
With the second case off the table, attention now turns to the third impeachment complaint pending before the House and how lawmakers will proceed under constitutional rules governing impeachment.
