NBA Tells Players: Upgrade Home Security or Risk Getting Robbed During Games

NBA athletes burglary warning

The NBA is sounding the alarm—literally. Following a string of burglaries targeting players and other pro athletes, the league has issued a memo urging stars to bolster their home security.

It’s not just about locks anymore; we’re talking guard dogs, signal jammers, and drones.

The Heist Playbook

Police believe South American theft rings are behind these robberies, which have hit big names like NBA stars Mike Conley and Bobby Portis and NFL icons Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. Portis, in particular, shared his own harrowing experience after his Milwaukee home was burglarized while he was at a game, asking the public for tips to recover stolen possessions.

These groups use high-tech gadgets like drones and signal jammers to scope out empty homes while athletes are away, usually during game nights. Their targets? Cash, jewelry, luxury handbags, and anything that screams “cha-ching!”

Guard Dogs, Alarm Codes, and No Selfies

The NBA’s advice? Upgrade alarm systems and, you know, turn them on. The memo also suggests removing home photos from real estate listings and being picky about contractors. Oh, and maybe invest in a furry four-legged defender. Because when the offense is this organized, a solid defense is essential—on and off the court.

With burglars stepping up their game, these athletes aren’t just defending on the court—they’re fortifying at home. Here’s hoping their alarms score the real win.
