Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns in talks for Legendary’s Street Fighter film

Legendary Entertainment’s live-action Street Fighter movie is gaining momentum, with a powerhouse lineup of actors in negotiations to bring Capcom’s iconic video game franchise to the big screen.

Andrew Koji, Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo, and Roman Reigns are circling roles in the highly anticipated adaptation, set to be directed by Kitao Sakurai.

The project, co-developed with Capcom, aims to reimagine the global martial arts tournament that made characters like Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li household names.

While plot details remain tightly guarded, the casting buzz signals a solid attempt to redeem the franchise’s rocky cinematic history.

Koji, known for his martial arts prowess in Warrior and Bullet Train, is a natural fit for the disciplined fighter archetype central to Street Fighter.

Momoa, fresh off the billion-dollar success of A Minecraft Movie, brings his larger-than-life presence, potentially suiting a formidable character from the game’s roster.

Centineo, who showcased action chops in The Recruit and Warfare, offers youthful energy for a younger hero or rival. Reigns, a WWE superstar with screen credits in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, could embody the raw physicality of the series’ heavyweights.

Though specific roles are unconfirmed, the diverse talents suggest a mix of intense combat and charismatic performances.

The Street Fighter franchise, born in 1987, revolutionized fighting games with Street Fighter II in 1991, introducing combo mechanics and a vibrant cast.

Past film attempts, like the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle and 2009’s The Legend of Chun-Li, stumbled critically and commercially.

Legendary’s reboot, announced in 2023 after securing exclusive rights, seeks to capitalize on the video game movie renaissance, fueled by hits like Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sakurai, replacing directors Danny and Michael Philippou, brings a comedic edge from Bad Trip and The Eric Andre Show, hinting at a tonal balance of action and humor.

With casting talks advancing, production appears on track for a 2026 target. The involvement of Capcom ensures fidelity to the source material, raising hopes for a faithful yet fresh take.

As negotiations progress, fans await word on which World Warriors these stars will portray, setting the stage for a high-stakes cinematic showdown.
