Education Secretary Sonny Angara is advancing the DepEd’s Expanded Career Progression program as part of a nationwide reform aimed at accelerating promotions for public school teachers.

The initiative seeks to resolve long standing delays in career advancement and create clearer promotion pathways for educators who wish to remain in classroom teaching roles.

Angara highlighted the program during an oath taking ceremony for newly promoted educators in Talisay City, Cebu, where 418 teachers and school heads formally took their oath after receiving promotions under the Expanded Career Progression framework. The event marked one of the early local implementations of the program as the department rolls out the reform across the country.

The Expanded Career Progression system introduces structured career tracks that allow teachers to advance in rank and salary based on competence, experience, and performance.

The framework allows educators to move through higher teaching ranks while continuing classroom instruction instead of shifting to administrative roles.

DepEd said the reform forms part of a broader effort to accelerate promotions nationwide. With a P6.1 billion allocation for fiscal year 2026, the department aims to promote more than 100,000 public school teachers under the Expanded Career Progression system as it expands implementation across the country.

Officials say the program addresses long standing concerns in the public school system where career advancement often depended on vacant administrative positions. The new framework ties promotions more directly to professional standards and performance.

For Angara, the rollout signals a wider push to strengthen the teaching profession and expand opportunities for educators. DepEd said the Expanded Career Progression system will continue to be implemented nationwide as the department works toward its target of promoting over 100,000 teachers by 2026.
