Education Secretary Sonny Angara is advancing the rollout of modular classrooms under the DepEd’s Learning Continuity Spaces, focusing on faster construction and more durable facilities for students in affected areas.
The initiative has been introduced in locations including Cebu, Masbate, Davao del Norte, and Bataan, where new classroom units are being prepared to support schools facing infrastructure gaps and the impact of recent disasters. The approach aims to ensure that learning continues without long delays caused by rebuilding traditional school structures.
Angara said the department is shifting away from temporary materials that are prone to damage. “Mas disente na ang classrooms na itatayo ng DepEd in response sa mga lugar na tinamaan ng bagyo at sakuna,” he said. He added that the goal is to provide classrooms that are safe, conducive, and built to last for students across the country.
“Sa Learning Continuity Spaces, hindi na tayo aasa sa coco lumber, trapal, o kawayan na madaling masira at hindi nagtatagal. Dahil sa prefab at modular features, naitayo natin ang mga ito sa loob lamang ng dalawang linggo. Garantisadong tatagal ito ng hanggang 20 taon dahil sa mga makabago at de-kalidad na materyales na ginamit,” Angara said.
The modular classroom program forms part of DepEd’s ongoing efforts to address classroom shortages while improving the quality of learning environments. By using prefabricated designs, the department aims to speed up construction and deliver more reliable facilities, especially in areas that require immediate solutions.
