Education Secretary Sonny Angara urged public schools nationwide to maximize the use of digital learning tools, calling technology a central pillar of the government’s learner-centered education reforms.
Angara made the call during the International Day of Education celebration at Gen. Pio del Pilar National High School in Makati City, emphasizing that digital platforms help make learning more engaging and accessible across the public school system.
“Let’s make use of the tools being made available by the Department to maximize our students’ learning. We want learning to be more fun and engaging because this is a system we co-create together for everyone’s benefit,” Angara said.
He highlighted instructional and interactive digital resources developed with partners such as Khan Academy Philippines, Canva, Google, and Microsoft, noting that both teachers and learners in public schools can access these tools to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
Angara said the digital push is part of broader reforms that place learners at the center of education policy, extending beyond classroom instruction to student welfare.
He cited the expansion of the School-Based Feeding Program as a major shift toward addressing foundational learning needs, announcing universal feeding for all kindergarten and Grade 1 students in public schools for 180 days per school year.
“For the first time in Philippine history, the budget is now almost ten times bigger,” he said.
Angara added that combining digital tools with expanded support programs reflects a shared responsibility among government, schools, teachers, and students, as the DepEd continues efforts to strengthen classroom engagement and student well-being nationwide.
