Senator Bong Go cited a Supreme Court ruling ordering the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. to remit mandated funds to the Philippine Sports Commission in accordance with Republic Act 6847.
The ruling, reported as final and executory, upheld a 2024 Supreme Court decision directing both government-owned gaming agencies to comply with their statutory funding obligations to the Philippine Sports Commission.
Under Republic Act 6847, PAGCOR is required to remit five percent of its gross income to the National Sports Development Fund, while PCSO is required to remit thirty percent representing the charity fund from six lottery or sweepstakes draws annually. The Supreme Court ruled that these remittances are mandatory and enforceable.
The Court rejected arguments raised by PAGCOR and PCSO questioning the scope and computation of the required remittances and affirmed the applicability of the funding provisions under the law creating the Philippine Sports Commission.
Go has been identified in public records as chair of the Senate Committee on Sports and the Senate Committee on Youth. In that capacity, he referenced the ruling in relation to the implementation of the statutory funding mechanism for sports development programs administered by the Philippine Sports Commission.
