The world of sports and business is mourning the loss of George Foreman, the iconic two-time heavyweight boxing champion, entrepreneur, and pitchman for the George Foreman Grill.

He passed away at the age of 76 on March 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that spans the boxing ring, the business world, and beyond.

A Storied Boxing Career and Iconic Moments

George Foreman’s rise to fame began in the 1960s when he took the boxing world by storm.

In 1968, he won a gold medal at the Mexico City Olympics, and by the early 1970s, he was already a force to be reckoned with.

His powerful, knockout-heavy style led him to become world heavyweight champion in 1973.

One of the defining moments of his career came in 1974, when he faced Muhammad Ali in the legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” in Kinshasa, Zaire.

Although Foreman lost to Ali in an upset, the match became one of the most talked-about boxing events of all time and cemented both fighters’ legacies in the history of the sport.

A Remarkable Comeback

After retiring in 1977, Foreman surprised everyone by returning to the boxing ring in 1987 at the age of 38, a time when most boxers would be long retired.

His triumphant comeback saw him reclaim the heavyweight title in 1994 at the age of 45, defeating Michael Moorer in one of the most remarkable feats in boxing history.

This victory made him the oldest heavyweight champion ever.

Foreman’s comeback proved that age was no obstacle for someone with his determination, and he continued to inspire athletes worldwide.

His comeback story remains one of the greatest in sports.

A Legendary Entrepreneur

While George Foreman was known for his boxing career, he also became a household name thanks to his business ventures, notably the George Foreman Grill.

He pitched the grill to the public, and it quickly became a massive success.

Selling over 100 million units worldwide, the grill became one of the best-selling kitchen appliances in history, making Foreman a major figure in the world of entrepreneurship.

Despite his success as a boxer, his ability to transition into the business world and create a widely successful product was a testament to his far-reaching influence.

George Foreman’s Personal Life and Legacy

Beyond his career in boxing and business, George Foreman was known for his deep Christian faith and his role as a father to 12 children.

His ability to juggle the roles of family man, athlete, and entrepreneur has made him an inspiration to many, showcasing resilience, reinvention, and the ability to defy expectations.

Foreman’s family announced his passing, saying in a statement:

“With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr., who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.”
