The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) has formally invited former Vice President and current Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo to its 20th Annual Meeting in New York City, but she announced that she will not be able to attend due to a typhoon.
In a letter dated September 5, 2025, CGI Chief Executive Officer Greg Milne extended the invitation to Robredo, addressed to her office at the Naga City Hall Complex. The event, set for September 24–25, 2025, at the New York Hilton Midtown, was to be led by President Bill Clinton, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Dr. Chelsea Clinton.
The letter emphasized CGI’s mission since its founding in 2005, when President Clinton convened leaders from government, business, philanthropy, and civil society to collaborate on global challenges. It noted that the Commitment to Action model has already made a positive impact on the lives of more than 500 million people worldwide.
Milne expressed that Robredo’s participation “would be incredibly valuable in driving critical discussions, building solutions, and inspiring action” during the high-level gathering held alongside the United Nations General Assembly.
Despite the honor of the invitation, Robredo explained that she had to cancel her planned trip to New York at the last minute because of the typhoon affecting the Philippines.
