Manila authorities are working with Cambodian officials to locate gaming tycoon Charlie “Atong” Ang, who is wanted by Philippine law enforcement, as authorities intensify a cross-border manhunt for one of the country’s most wanted figures.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed that a Philippine liaison officer has been coordinating with Cambodian authorities amid intelligence that Ang may be hiding there. Remulla said the Philippines has an extradition treaty with Cambodia, providing a legal mechanism to return Ang to face charges if he is located.
Remulla added that coordination is expected to move faster this year with the Philippines serving as ASEAN chair.
“Ang problema na naman, napakadaming salapi niyan, ’di ba? Pero hindi imposible lahat ’yan. Si Teves naparaming salapi pero nakuha pa rin natin sa Timor Leste,” Remulla told reporters at Camp Crame.
The interior chief earlier said Ang is believed to be either in Cambodia or Thailand, based on information provided by whistleblower Julie Patidongan, though authorities have yet to confirm a physical sighting.
Police have conducted raids at at least 18 locations nationwide over the past 20 days as part of the manhunt. Remulla said the search is steadily narrowing.
“His world is getting smaller; paliit nang paliit ’yan,” he said.
Ang is facing arrest warrants issued by two courts over his alleged involvement in the disappearance of sabungeros linked to his cockfighting operations. The DILG Philippines has announced a ₱10-million reward for information leading to his capture.
The intensified coordination reflects expanding regional cooperation as Philippine authorities pursue suspects beyond national borders.
