The release of more than three million pages of records related to Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019, has renewed scrutiny of his communications with high-profile international figures, including Bill Gates.
Among the documents made public by The United States Department of Justice is a March 20, 2015 email titled “Preparing for Pandemics.” The message was sent to Epstein by an individual whose name has been redacted and included a draft agenda focused on pandemic preparedness. The email referenced potential coordination with the World Health Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The correspondence outlined discussions on responding to large-scale disease outbreaks and suggested formal engagement with international health and humanitarian institutions. Other materials in the document release refer to conversations about modeling widespread disease transmission, biomedical research, neurotechnology, and the global spread of infections—topics discussed several years before the emergence of COVID-19.
Some of the records describe exchanges between Epstein and Gates connected to pandemic modeling and biomedical initiatives. According to the documents, the 2015 email may have been forwarded to Epstein at a later date, though the identity of the original recipient and sender remains unclear based on the publicly released files.
In October 2019, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and the World Economic Forum, held a pandemic preparedness exercise known as Event 201. Organizers have repeatedly stated that the event was a hypothetical simulation intended to test response systems and was not designed to predict or plan a real pandemic.
Gates has previously acknowledged that his association with Epstein was a serious mistake. In a 2021 interview with CNN, he said he met Epstein several times in an effort to secure funding for philanthropic projects, later admitting that the relationship was misguided. Gates has not publicly commented on the latest document disclosures.
The newly released materials also include emails and photographs indicating social contact between Epstein and Gates. Gates’ relationship with Epstein, which began around 2011 after Epstein’s conviction for exploiting minors, was previously cited by Melinda French Gates as one of the factors that contributed to their divorce.
