Governors from several provinces affected by Tropical Storm “Basyang” have expressed their appreciation to President Bongbong Marcos for the prompt release of P321 million in government financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) battered by the storm and associated weather disturbances.

The financial aid, ordered released by President Marcos through Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, is earmarked to support rehabilitation and relief efforts — including infrastructure restoration and emergency response operations — in provinces and cities that experienced flooding, landslides, and other damage due to heavy rains brought by Basyang and an accompanying shear line.

In separate public statements, governors from at least six provinces personally thanked the President and his Cabinet for the expedited government support. Local officials emphasized that the assistance will help accelerate recovery efforts, restore essential public services, and provide relief to flood‑affected families still coping with the aftermath of the storm.

Under the directive issued by the President, the P321 million package will be distributed to 34 provinces and eight cities nationwide that suffered significant impacts from Basyang, including damage to roads, bridges, public facilities, and homes.

The Office of Civil Defense and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council report that hundreds of thousands of families were affected by the inclement weather, prompting extensive evacuation and emergency response operations.

Executive Secretary Recto said recipient LGUs are required to submit utilization reports showing how the funds are spent, underscoring the national government’s commitment to transparency and efficient use of public resources in disaster recovery.

The aid release follows a meeting between President Marcos and provincial leaders from the hardest‑hit areas, where officials discussed ongoing government response efforts and coordinated strategies to support affected communities. The national government has also directed related relief measures such as river clearing and flood mitigation projects to reduce the risk of future similar disasters.

As the country continues to prepare for the peak of the rainy season, both national and local authorities have urged continued vigilance and collaboration to safeguard vulnerable communities and ensure swift assistance to those in need.
