Senator Risa Hontiveros said she remains open to supporting a common presidential candidate for the 2028 elections and anchored her position on opposition unity.
Asked about proposals for a single standard bearer, Hontiveros did not rule out consolidation. “I remain open, I remain willing. At yung condition ko ay yung tulad nung matagal ko na ring sinasabi kung piliin ng united opposition,” she said, adding, “I would be willing to take on any task na hihingin ng united opposition.”
She emphasized that unity will determine strength in 2028. “Kung magkaisa kami sa usaping 2028, palagay ko yun yung magpapalakas nung tsansa namin and kung sino ang buuin naming team or slate para doon, susuportahan ko yun.”
Hontiveros did not declare a presidential bid and did not endorse any specific candidate. She made clear that decisions must come from collective agreement rather than individual ambition.
Her remarks come as political groups begin maneuvering two years before the 2028 race. Discussions on consolidation have resurfaced amid concerns that multiple candidates could divide votes.
By tying her role to a unified decision, Hontiveros signaled readiness to lead if chosen or support a slate formed through consensus.
The 2028 elections will determine the successor to President Bongbong Marcos, and coalition-building is expected to intensify as preparations move forward.
