Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo addressed claims questioning the authenticity of her recent bus ride to Metro Manila after photos and a video circulated online.
Robredo clarified that the footage was not staged, noting that it was captured by Sangguniang Kabataan Chair Marlon Casilao, who happened to be at the terminal seeing off his mother.
“Post po ito ni SK Chair Marlon Casilao na nasa terminal din para ihatid ang nanay niya na papunta sa Manila,” Robredo said, emphasizing that the moment was neither orchestrated nor political.
Photos shared by her executive assistant, Ray-An Rentoy, showed Robredo seated inside the bus reportedly bound for Manila. Rentoy explained that the mayor opted for public transportation instead of a government vehicle to conserve fuel amid rising oil prices and global economic tensions.
Robredo used the trip to attend official meetings in Manila, blending practicality with public accountability. Supporters praised her approach, highlighting her simplicity and sensitivity to the struggles of ordinary commuters, while critics questioned the authenticity of the moment.
Robredo’s clarification underscored that the bus ride reflected her genuine choice and not a staged photo opportunity, emphasizing transparency and public engagement in her official travel.
