Mandy Romero, a 25-year-old solar energy entrepreneur and policy advocate, has been appointed as the youngest assistant secretary in the Department of Energy (DOE). “Serving our country is the greatest honor of my life. I’m inspired to work alongside the dedicated and passionate public servants of the DOE,” she said, reflecting her enthusiasm for the role. Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said Romero’s selection demonstrates her confidence in youth leadership and fresh, innovative perspectives to drive the country’s energy transition.
Romero is the founder of Capital1 Solar Energy, which develops large-scale solar projects across the Philippines, bringing hands-on industry experience to the DOE.
Before joining the agency, she represented the Philippines as a youth delegate at the United Nations, speaking at the 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women and promoting policies on education, rural electrification, poverty reduction, and food security.
A magna cum laude graduate of Georgetown University, Romero also supports women’s sports, including the Capital1 Solar Spikers volleyball team. As assistant secretary, she will oversee public affairs, legislative liaison, investment promotion, and consumer welfare offices, advancing renewable energy initiatives and private sector engagement.
