Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte Duterte criticized the decision of the House Committee on Justice to move forward with the third and fourth impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, warning that the move could undermine the credibility of the constitutional process.
Duterte issued the statement after the committee ruled that the two complaints were sufficient in form, allowing the proceedings to advance to the next stage inside the House of Representatives.
“I take note of the decision of the House Committee on Justice declaring the third and fourth impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte as sufficient in form,” Duterte said in a statement.
He said the move raised serious concerns about how the complaints are being handled and questioned the motives behind continuing the process.
“This decision raises serious concerns about the integrity of the process and the motives behind pushing these complaints forward,” he said.
Duterte stressed that impeachment is a constitutional mechanism that must be handled with restraint and fairness, noting that political pressures should not influence proceedings that could remove a sitting national official.
The House Committee on Justice reviews impeachment complaints to determine whether they meet procedural requirements before lawmakers examine the substance of the allegations. A finding that a complaint is sufficient in form allows deliberations to continue within the panel.
Several groups have filed impeachment complaints against the vice president in recent months. Duterte’s office has denied wrongdoing and is expected to respond once formal notice is issued.
Paolo Duterte said the process should remain grounded in law and evidence, warning that rushing politically charged complaints risks weakening public trust in democratic institutions.
