Authorities in the Philippines have raised concerns over the online gaming platform Roblox, warning that it may be used by some users to engage in harmful and potentially illegal activity, particularly involving minors.
The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center – CICC said it has received reports of child exploitation, grooming, and predatory behavior occurring on the platform. CICC Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso said Roblox could face restrictions in the country if the company fails to address these concerns and cooperate with authorities on stronger safety measures.
Officials emphasized that these risks are linked to how users interact within the platform, particularly through its communication features. While Roblox has existing safeguards, authorities indicated that these may not be sufficient to prevent abuse, framing this as part of their ongoing assessment of online safety risks.
Police also cited a separate case in Laguna involving several minors who were reportedly influenced online in connection with a school attack plot. Authorities clarified that the case reflects broader concerns about online environments and does not establish Roblox as the sole cause, but it has been referenced in discussions about digital safety among young users.
The government has warned that failure by Roblox to respond to these issues could lead to further action, including coordination with telecommunications providers and app platforms to restrict access. Officials said monitoring efforts will continue as they await the company’s response.
