A Philippine Airlines (PAL) direct flight from Seattle to Manila was significantly delayed on Friday night after a male overseas Filipino worker (OFW) allegedly made a bomb-related comment, prompting a full security response at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport.
Flight PR 125, originally scheduled to depart at 9:30 PM, had already boarded when the remark was overheard and reported to the flight crew. According to passengers, the man had been conversing with others in the cabin before making a comment that referenced a bomb, leading to immediate notification of airport authorities.
Airport police arrived at the aircraft and escorted the male passenger off the plane for investigation. His current status has not been confirmed, and authorities have not announced whether charges will be filed.
Following the incident, all passengers were instructed to leave the aircraft and keep their carry-on belongings onboard, in accordance with federal security procedures. The aircraft was then moved from the gate to allow Transportation Security Administration personnel, bomb-sniffing dogs, and specialized units to conduct a full inspection.
Travelers reported a heavy police presence, with an estimated 10 to 15 officers stationed at the gate during the operation. The search prompted a substantial delay, with the expected departure time pushed to 2:00 AM.
During the security sweep, authorities reportedly discovered live ammunition inside the aircraft. It has not yet been confirmed whether the ammunition was connected to the male passenger involved in the bomb remark or if it was an unrelated oversight. Officials are still determining the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
The extended delay left passengers waiting in the terminal without access to their wallets, electronic devices, or other personal items that had remained onboard as part of the protocol.
U.S. aviation protocols impose strict measures on any statements involving explosives, even if made jokingly. Such incidents automatically trigger thorough inspections and police involvement, often resulting in significant operational disruptions.
Philippine Airlines and Seattle–Tacoma International Airport have not issued official comments regarding the incident.
