Malacañang said it is too early to comment on reports about a possible new UniTeam alliance for the 2028 national elections after former senator Antonio Trillanes IV raised the idea of a coalition involving supporters of former Vice President Leni Robredo and the Marcos camp.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the proposal has not been discussed with Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and that the Palace has no official position on the matter.
Trillanes earlier suggested that a potential alliance between Robredo supporters and the Marcos camp could be formed to defeat the Duterte camp in the next election cycle.
Castro said the administration is not in a position to respond to speculation surrounding political alliances that may emerge ahead of 2028, adding that no guidance has been issued by the President on the issue.
She also said Malacañang cannot comment at this time on whether the Marcos administration would be open to working with individuals or groups that were previously part of the opposition or who ran against Marcos in the 2022 elections.
The Palace maintained that there have been no official talks or developments related to the rumored alliance and reiterated that discussions about possible political coalitions remain speculative following Trillanes’ remarks.
