Wicked: For Good has officially opened in Philippine cinemas, bringing the second half of the story to SM, Ayala Malls, and Vista Cinemas nationwide. The film arrives in the country after a global promo tour that stayed in the spotlight for weeks and kept audiences watching every stop.
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo led the entire run, and their partnership throughout the tour became one of its defining themes.
That dynamic stood out most at the New York premiere, where Erivo appeared after losing her voice. Universal confirmed she was on strict vocal rest, so Grande stepped in to handle interview duties on her behalf.
The pair still joined the E! livestream despite earlier guidance that they would skip interviews. Grande held the only mic and answered questions for both of them while Erivo stood beside her smiling, and the clip spread online within minutes.
Erivo’s silence underscored how demanding the role has been for her. She has spoken before about the strain of performing Elphaba’s music, including the 103-degree fever she developed after her audition. The vocal rest order reflected the toll of balancing heavy singing with a packed global schedule.
The tour itself had several notable moments. Grande missed the São Paulo premiere because of flight issues. A man rushed her at the Singapore carpet, and Erivo moved quickly to push him away.
Despite the pace and occasional unexpected incidents, both stars continued to support each other on every stop, and that consistency became part of the tour’s identity.
Now that Wicked: For Good is screening in the Philippines, local audiences can watch the conclusion of the two-part adaptation, complete with returning cast members and new music from Stephen Schwartz.
The film’s arrival marks the end of a long promotional journey and the start of its full story reaching viewers worldwide.
