Bud Light’s Hail Mary: Can Shane Gillis Make Them Cool Again?

Bud Light is trying to bubble back up after its infamous partnership with Dylan Mulvaney left them in hot water.

Critics slammed the campaign as “woke,” sparking boycotts, plummeting sales, and a full-blown identity crisis for the beer giant. Now, they’ve called in comedian Shane Gillis for their latest ad, Wrong Commercial, banking on humor and self-awareness to pour some life back into their reputation.

Gillis’s Awkward Comeback

Shane Gillis isn’t a new face for Bud Light. Months ago, he brought his signature everyman charm to one of their commercials.

Now, he’s back, navigating an over-the-top high-fashion ad setting that hilariously doesn’t fit his vibe. Gillis’s line, “This isn’t me,” is as much a commentary on the ad’s awkward setup as it is on Bud Light’s struggle to reconnect with its audience.

Can Comedy Cure Controversy?

The Dylan Mulvaney partnership earlier this year sparked boycotts that sent Bud Light’s sales plummeting.

By bringing Gillis back, the beer giant is banking on a familiar face and some self-deprecating humor to repair its image. But is this enough to make people forget the brand’s recent missteps?

While the ad may strike a chord with some, others might see it as too little, too late. One thing’s for sure—Bud Light is doubling down on comedy in hopes of rekindling its fizz with drinkers. Only time will tell if this gamble pays off.
