The Woke Avengers: Who on the New “Doomsday” Cast Is Liberal vs. Conservative

Avengers: Doomsday is assembling one of the biggest superhero casts Marvel has ever attempted, but the battle might already be brewing off-screen.

With culture wars raging and Hollywood getting dragged deeper into politics every year, we decided to look at the real-life ideological leanings of Marvel’s newly revealed roster.

Because let’s face it—fans don’t just care who’s fighting Doctor Doom anymore; they also want to know who’s fighting for free speech, social justice, or traditional values in real life.

The Avengers Go Blue: The Liberal Majority

Unsurprisingly, most of the Doomsday cast falls right in line with the liberal default of Hollywood. From vocal social justice advocates to the usual anti-Trump crowd, this squad knows their hashtags.

  • Robert Downey Jr.  (Doctor Doom, formerly Iron Man)

Although Downey has previously expressed ambiguous political sentiments—stating in a 2008 interview that his prison experience shifted his views away from liberalism—his recent actions indicate support for Democratic initiatives.

He participated in a 2024 campaign video endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential bid, alongside fellow Avengers cast members.

Additionally, Downey has made donations to Democratic campaigns and appeared in videos opposing Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

  • Chris Hemsworth (Thor)

Hemsworth has publicly criticized the Trump administration’s stance on climate change, describing it as “scary” and expressing concern over environmental policies.

While he has not explicitly aligned himself with a political party, his advocacy for environmental issues and Indigenous rights in Australia suggests a progressive stance.

  • Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards)

Support for Trans Rights: Pascal has been vocal in supporting transgender rights, notably posting messages condemning the harassment of trans individuals.

If there’s a king of online liberal commentary in this cast, it’s Pedro. Anti-Trump, pro-LGBTQ+, and never afraid to tweet what’s on his mind—even when it triggers half the internet.

  • Simu Liu (Shang-Chi)

Criticism of Trump’s Tax Plan: Liu publicly criticized former President Donald Trump’s proposed tax cuts for the wealthy.

He’s spoken out on anti-Asian hate, championed representation, and isn’t shy about clapping back at critics online.

  • Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova)

Critique of Elon Musk’s Actions: Pugh called out Elon Musk for his salute at a Trump event, indicating her disapproval.

Feminist icon in training. She’s pro-choice, BLM-supporting, and frequently posts about gender politics.

  • Tom Hiddleston (Loki)

Political Neutrality: Hiddleston has expressed a desire to remain apolitical, stating he is not affiliated with the Conservative Party.

  • Anthony Mackie (Captain America):

Previously criticized by Trump supporters, Mackie reignited controversy after saying his Captain America “shouldn’t represent America.”

The comment triggered fresh boycott calls from conservative and pro-Trump circles online.

  • Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto)

LGBTQ+ Advocacy: McKellen is a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and has been involved in various activism efforts.

  • Patrick Stewart (Professor X)

Stewart has a history of political activism and has expressed concerns about Donald Trump’s leadership.

  • Channing Tatum (Gambit)

Support for Democratic Candidates: Tatum encouraged voters in Alabama to support Democrat Doug Jones, despite identifying as neither Democrat nor Republican.

  • Rebecca Romijn (Mystique):

Influence of Political Figures: Romijn mentioned that President Joe Biden inspired her to watch certain television shows, indicating some level of political engagement.

Less politically loud, but have donated to Democrat causes and publicly supported progressive issues.

Red-Leaning Rebels: Who’s Not With the Hollywood Herd?

Now here’s where things get interesting. A handful of cast members—surprising or not—don’t fully align with the usual Hollywood leftist narrative. And they stand out big time in this woke-heavy lineup.

  • Chris Pratt (Star-Lord)

Long rumored to lean right, Pratt has faced speculation over his political and religious affiliations. While he avoids direct endorsements, his support for a non-Hollywood church and silence during heated political moments have led many to label him one of Hollywood’s quiet conservatives.

  • Kelsey Grammer (Beast)

Big time conservative. Grammer has openly supported the GOP and backed Trump-era Republicans—an extreme rarity in Tinseltown. He’s never been shy about it either.

  • Letitia Wright (Shuri / Black Panther)

Once seen as Marvel’s golden girl, Wright faced backlash after sharing an anti-vaccine video during COVID. She later clarified her stance, but her reputation as a Christian-conservative remains sticky among the Marvel fandom.

Actors with Unclear or Undisclosed Political Leanings

Not every Doomsday star has made their stance loud and clear. Some are still flying under the radar—either too new to the spotlight or simply choosing to keep politics off the press tour.

Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) has shown support for Palestine, but beyond that, his political views remain mostly undefined. Lewis Pullman (Sentry) is even more of a mystery, with virtually no public political statements on record.

Tenoch Huerta (Namor) and Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman) have both been involved in equity-centered projects, but neither has taken firm public stances on political issues.

Meanwhile, David Harbour (Red Guardian) gives off left-leaning vibes in interviews and roles, but avoids activist-level involvement.

Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) is the exception in this group—he’s a known LGBTQ+ rights advocate and has long aligned himself with progressive causes.

For now, these actors sit in the wildcard category. Whether they lean red, blue, or stay quiet altogether, it’s clear they’re not jumping into the culture war fray just yet.

At the end of the day, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be more than just another superhero film—it’s a microcosm of today’s polarized world.

From the woke Avengers fighting for political change to the quieter, more conservative heroes trying to avoid the drama, this cast is a perfect reflection of what’s happening in the real world.

Sure, they may be saving the multiverse, but their personal politics make the Marvel Universe seem almost as divided as the rest of us.

In the end, we’ll leave the politics to them. As long as they’re saving the world on-screen, we’re just here for the popcorn.
