President Bongbong Marcos said he is focusing on governance rather than early political maneuvering for the 2028 elections, days after meeting with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo .
“Differences in politics should never prevent us from working together for our people,” Marcos said in a Facebook post. “Nation first. Personal agendas later.”
The post included a video clip of Marcos and Robredo on Feb. 20 responding to questions from journalists about whether their respective camps could unite to field candidates for the 2028 presidential elections. The question came after Vice President Sara Duterte announced her intention to run for president in 2028.
In a separate Instagram post, Marcos shared the same video with the caption, “Serve first. Argue later. Less noise. More nation-building.”
Malacañang said discussions about the 2028 elections are not on the President’s agenda, adding that any move toward early coalition-building would be premature.
Marcos also described Duterte’s early pronouncement as “irrelevant” at this stage, saying there is no need for Filipinos to be divided.
Robredo denied that her meeting with Marcos touched on the 2028 elections. She said raising the issue during the visit would have been a “disservice” to her constituents.
Marcos was in Naga City to inspect the implementation of the Oplan Kontra Baha project and to personally turn over a special allotment release order amounting to P500 million for the rehabilitation of the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum.
