In a recent Senate Committee on Agriculture hearing, Senator Bong Go called for urgent government action to alleviate the mounting pressure caused by rising oil prices. Speaking on April 8, 2026, Go highlighted the escalating burden on Filipinos, stressing the need for swift and decisive responses to avoid further exacerbating the crisis.
“This must be done quickly! We cannot just keep discussing this while people are suffering,” Go said, urging immediate intervention to protect vulnerable sectors from the growing economic strain.
The senator expressed his frustration with the persistent increase in fuel prices, which have significantly impacted daily life. “It’s truly frustrating and exhausting that fuel prices seem to rise almost every day,” Go noted, reflecting the sentiments of many Filipinos.
In response to the crisis, Go has introduced the Fuel Crisis Immediate Relief and Response Bill, a proposed measure inspired by the Bayanihan laws enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill aims to mobilize government resources rapidly and provide immediate relief to those most affected by the surge in oil prices.
Go also suggested that unused government funds could be temporarily reallocated to help mitigate the crisis. “If there are funds that have not yet been used or are not urgently needed, perhaps those could be utilized first to help our fellow citizens,” he proposed, emphasizing the need for quick financial adjustments.
The senator stressed that the oil price surge is not an isolated issue but one that impacts multiple sectors, including transportation, food production, and household expenses. “All Filipinos are affected by this. That’s why we must act together and speed up the solution,” Go concluded, reaffirming his commitment to supporting policies that will provide immediate assistance to those struggling due to the crisis.
