The initiative, called “Tatay Digong for Inday Sara Movement 2028,” was introduced during a press conference attended by organizers, local leaders, and sectoral representatives. Convenors said the effort is intended to build early, organized support for Duterte should she decide to seek the presidency in the next national elections.

Former Negros Oriental representative Jing Paras, who is among the movement’s convenors, said the group plans to begin grassroots organizing activities across Cebu in the coming months. These include strengthening local chapters, coordinating with allied organizations, and preparing a structure that can sustain long-term political mobilization leading up to 2028.

Local leader Jun Abines said Cebu was chosen as the launch site because of its political weight and historical significance. He described the gathering as an opportunity to connect local and national leaders and align efforts in preparation for the next election cycle.

Organizers also outlined plans for conventions and coordinated activities by 2026 to expand outreach and solidify support networks. Atty. Salvador Diputado, head of Lawyers for Sara Duterte, said preparations for a potential 2028 bid have been discussed among supporters in previous election cycles and are now being formalized through structured organizing.

The movement’s leaders emphasized unity among allied groups and framed the initiative as a long-term effort to consolidate grassroots backing rather than a short-term campaign activity. They said the goal is to establish a broad provincial base that could contribute to a national support network if Duterte decides to run.

Vice President Duterte has not formally declared her intentions for the 2028 presidential race.
