Fuel prices keep climbing, and transport drivers are feeling it first. The government has started releasing ₱5,000 cash aid to more than 200,000 drivers in Metro Manila through the DSWD, with LTFRB coordinating beneficiary lists.
The payouts run from March 24 to 28, covering TNVS, jeepney drivers, delivery riders, and motorcycle taxi operators. Authorities said nationwide distribution will follow after Holy Week as NCR rollout wraps up.
The assistance falls under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program, which provides direct financial relief during emergencies. Each qualified driver receives ₱5,000 to help offset rising fuel costs linked to the Middle East crisis. Drivers must present a valid license and documents at designated payout centers across Metro Manila.
Schedules vary by sector, starting with TNVS drivers on March 24, followed by jeepney drivers on March 25. Delivery drivers receive aid on March 26 and 27, while motorcycle taxi riders are scheduled on March 28. In total, the program targets around 214,635 beneficiaries in NCR alone.
“Nationwide implementation na po kami after Holy Week,” LTFRB Chairman Vigor Mendoza said in an interview, referring to the expansion of payouts beyond Metro Manila.
However, officials noted delays tied to encoding errors in driver data submitted by transport network companies. The DSWD said it is working to resolve these issues while continuing payouts within the week.
Alongside cash aid, the government is preparing additional support measures for the transport sector. Plans include a ₱700 million free ride program for public utility vehicles, with routes still under review.
