Vice President Sara Duterte‘s legal team confirmed they are prepared to respond if the House of Representatives moves forward with impeachment proceedings. Duterte’s spokesperson, Atty. Michael Poa, emphasized that the defense will not oppose the House should it secure sufficient votes to transmit the complaints to the Senate for trial.
Poa stated that the House Committee on Justice has the authority to pursue the matter and that the defense is ready for all steps required.
“Kung gusto naman nilang iakyat na, we will not object kasi that’s within their power. Talaga namang botohan ‘yan. At kung magkaroon ng botohan at may numero na at maiakyat sa Senado, ready tayo. Just like we were ready last year,” he said.
The statement reinforces that Duterte’s team will meet any procedural step with full compliance and readiness.
The impeachment complaints were formally introduced last week, with the House Committee on Justice finding them sufficient in form, substance, and grounds to begin hearings. Poa reiterated that the Vice President maintains that the complaints should be dismissed due to lack of evidence. Duterte’s team has consistently signaled willingness to address allegations at the proper time and forum, which they recognize as the Senate.
Poa explained that if the House decides to fast-track or proceed with a plenary vote, the defense will engage fully.
“Now, if they want to fast track and…mag-recommend na ang committee at magbotohan na sa plenary, by all means, we will not oppose that,” he added.
The approach signals a disciplined and transparent readiness to face legal scrutiny, reinforcing Duterte’s commitment to process while maintaining confidence in the legality of her actions.
