Full support for Speaker Dy: 97 House members back leadership and reforms

Lawmakers from Metro Manila and Mindanao have come together to express their unwavering support for Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III. Through a signed manifesto, 97 members of the House of Representatives reaffirmed their confidence in his leadership and commitment to reforms.

Dy’s office released copies of two signed manifestos on Thursday, signed by 33 lawmakers from Metro Manila and 64 from Mindanao, directly addresses the turbulence surrounding Dy’s assumption of the Speakership.

Both documents praise Dy’s leadership during a tumultuous period in the House of Representatives, highlighting his commitment to reforms and his steady hand in guiding the chamber.

“We are writing to express our continued and unwavering support and confidence in your leadership as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Your assumption of the Speakership came during a particularly tumultuous time, where public perception against the government was badly affected by the serious flood control corruption issues,” said the letter signed by 33 Metro Manila lawmakers.

The lawmakers commended Dy’s approach, noting that his calm, sincere, and principled leadership has served as a unifying force in the House. They also voiced strong support for Dy’s proposed Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption (ICI) Bill, recognizing it as a necessary step toward transparency and accountability.

Meanwhile, the 67 lawmakers from Mindanao also expressed their confidence in Dy’s leadership. They emphasized that his attributes would serve the country well, especially in times of political division and economic uncertainty.

“Mindanao has long stood at the crossroads of development, peace, and nation-building. In times when our country is confronted with political divisions, economic uncertainty, and declining public trust in institutions, we believe that the House of Representatives must be led by a Speaker whose leadership is grounded in stability, continuity, and the rule of law,” the Mindanao lawmakers stated.

The Metro Manila lawmakers also extended their support for Dy’s advocacy of the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill. Despite potential conflicts with his own family’s political legacy, Dy’s commitment to this reform was described as a crucial move for Congress. “Pushing for this measure, even if it may affect your own family, is a powerful wake-up call to the members of Congress,” the lawmakers said.

This public show of support from 97 lawmakers strengthens Dy’s position within the House, reinforcing his leadership amid ongoing controversies and challenges. It signals that despite the obstacles, Dy continues to hold strong backing from lawmakers across the nation, positioning him as a key figure in steering the House toward reform and accountability.
