A total of 425 gas stations across the Philippines have temporarily shut down as of March 27, according to the Philippine National Police, as fuel supply constraints continue to disrupt operations nationwide.
Data presented by the PNP in a press briefing at Camp Crame showed that out of 14,485 monitored gas stations, 425 were forced to close after running out of fuel. PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said, “The temporarily closed stations ran out of gas stock.”
Closures were recorded across multiple regions, showing the scale of the disruption:
Cordillera Administrative Region – 79
Central Luzon – 46
Eastern Visayas – 44
Cagayan Valley – 42
Bicol Region – 33
Ilocos Region – 30
Northern Mindanao – 28
Calabarzon – 25
Western Visayas – 18
Zamboanga Peninsula – 18
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao – 12
Negros Island Region – 11
Soccsksargen – 9
Caraga – 9
Mimaropa – 8
Davao Region – 8
National Capital Region – 4
Central Visayas – 1
The number of closures rose despite some stations reopening. Tuaño said that 28 stations were able to restock on March 26, but 38 more ran out of supply the following day.
The PNP also reported six cases linked to hoarding, overpricing, trademark violation, and unfair competition in Eastern Samar, Albay, Masbate, Davao del Sur, and Nueva Ecija.
For the public, the closures mean fewer operating stations in some areas, which may lead to longer lines, limited supply, or difficulty finding fuel. Authorities have increased police presence in fuel stations and depots to prevent illegal activities and keep supply available, while the Department of Energy Philippines continues to monitor fuel distribution and pricing.
