Former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has led a consolidated show of support for Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III after the 24 member Central Luzon bloc formally endorsed his leadership, pushing total backing in the House of Representatives to 266 lawmakers.
The Central Luzon bloc adopted a resolution on December 15 expressing full and unequivocal support for Dy as the chamber navigates heightened political pressure and intensified public scrutiny. The group said Congress is operating amid political, economic, and social challenges that demand unity and steady leadership.
In the resolution, the bloc said strong leadership is critical to preserving institutional integrity, protecting the independence of Congress, and ensuring the effective delivery of legislative priorities. It added that unity within the chamber is necessary to uphold public trust and move legislative work forward beyond partisan interests.
The bloc cited Dy’s leadership as decisive and inclusive, saying it has enabled the House to function effectively while responding to national concerns and remaining aligned with its constitutional mandate. It also pointed to Dy’s emphasis on accountability, collegiality, and fairness within the chamber.
The resolution said Dy has played a role in safeguarding the House against premature judgment, misinformation, and political attacks directed at the institution.
Arroyo serves as chairperson emeritus of the Central Luzon bloc. The resolution was signed by Pampanga Representative Anna York Bondoc, the bloc’s president.
Support for Dy was also expressed by Deputy Speaker and Zambales Representative Jefferson Khonghun and House Committee on Appropriations chair Mikaela Angela Suansing of Nueva Ecija.
Among the signatories were Bataan Representatives Albert Garcia, Maria Angela Garcia, and Antonino Roman. Bulacan signatories included Representatives Danilo Domingo, Augustina Dominique Pancho, Mark Cholo Violago, Linabelle Ruth Villarica, Agatha Paula Cruz, Salvador Pleyto, and San Jose del Monte City Representative Arturo Robes.
Also endorsing Dy were Nueva Ecija Representatives Mario Salvador, Julius Cesar Vergara, and Emerson Pascual; Pampanga Representatives Alyssa Michaela Gonzales and Carmelo Lazatin Jr.; Tarlac Representatives Jaime Eduardo Marc Cojuangco, Maria Cristina Angeles, and Noel Rivera; Zambales Representative Doris Maniquiz; and Aurora Representative Rommel Rico Angara.
With the Central Luzon bloc’s endorsement, more than four fifths of the 318 member House have now formally renewed their support for Dy’s leadership.
