President Bongbong Marcos extended a “good luck” message to Vice President Sara Duterte after she announced her bid for the presidency in the 2028 national elections.
According to Palace press officer Claire Castro, Marcos made the remark after Duterte publicly declared her intention to seek the country’s highest office in a briefing where the vice president also expressed regret over running alongside Marcos in 2022, apologized to the public, and accused him of failing to uphold his campaign promises and sworn duty to the country.
Duterte’s declaration marked a significant political development ahead of the next national election cycle.
The Palace, however, did not share the President’s reaction to Duterte’s claims that she had noticed early signs of what she called a lack of integrity in leadership and opted to step down from the Cabinet instead of backing a 2025 national budget she described as riddled with corruption.
In her press briefing, the vice president also pointed to rising prices, food insecurity, healthcare gaps, and alleged institutional abuse as she pledged her life, strength, and future in service of the nation.
