President Bongbong Marcos formed an interagency committee to prepare the Philippines for Green Expo 2027 in Japan, an event that will highlight biodiversity, sustainable farming, green technologies, ecotourism and cultural heritage.
Under Administrative Order No. 41, the president created a Philippine Organizing Committee to coordinate the country’s involvement in the international exposition, which will be held in Yokohama from March to September 2027 under the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness.”
Agriculture Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Tiu Laurel Jr. was named chair of the committee, with Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco as vice chair. Members include the heads of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.
Green Expo 2027, recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions and the International Association of Horticultural Producers, will serve as a platform for countries to showcase sustainable practices.
Malacañang said the Philippines’ participation aligns with the administration’s priorities under the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, particularly the push to transform agriculture and production toward sustainability and competitiveness, and to advance science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.
All government agencies were directed to cooperate with the organizing committee, while local government units and the private sector were encouraged to provide support to ensure the country’s successful participation.
The committee was instructed to submit quarterly reports to the president through the executive secretary and to the Department of Budget and Management, detailing expenses, income, accomplishments and economic impact, as well as a final report after the expo concludes.
