Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso has launched a fresh milk feeding program set to benefit more than 100,000 children enrolled in daycare centers across the city. The initiative aims to improve child nutrition while supporting local dairy producers.
The program is being carried out in partnership with the National Dairy Authority (NDA) through its Private Sector Milk Feeding Program. The project links local dairy farmers with private companies that can fund milk purchases through corporate social responsibility initiatives. Fresh milk will be sourced directly from Filipino farmers and distributed to daycare centers in all six districts of Manila.
Mayor Moreno announced the plan in a meeting with dairy farmers, business leaders, and government officials, confirming that the city is ready to purchase and distribute the milk. He said the Manila Health Department and the City Nutrition Office are finalizing details to ensure proper coordination and rollout of the project.
According to NDA Administrator Atty. Marcus Antonious Andaya, the initiative aims to strengthen local milk production and reduce dependence on imported powdered milk. The NDA is coordinating with dairy cooperatives to maintain a stable supply and consistent quality for the city’s feeding program.
Mayor Moreno also recalled his experience with the Nutribun and milk feeding efforts under former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., saying those programs helped reduce hunger among public school students. Manila’s network of more than 460 daycare centers will serve as the main distribution system once the program is fully implemented.
The city government said preparations are ongoing, with logistics, supply chain coordination, and quality control measures already in place. The program is expected to begin distribution soon.
