The Government of Japan has conferred the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun on Senator Migz Zubiri for his contributions to strengthening relations between Japan and the Philippines.
The Grand Cordon is one of the highest decorations given by Japan to foreign nationals who have made contributions to promoting friendship and cooperation with the country. It was established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji as the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese government.
According to the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, the award recognizes Zubiri’s efforts to strengthen economic, diplomatic, and strategic relations between Manila and Tokyo.
Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koshikawa Kazuhiko congratulated Zubiri and cited his role in advancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Zubiri expressed gratitude to the Japanese government in a statement posted on social media.
“Taos-pusong pasasalamat sa Government of Japan for conferring on me the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun,” Zubiri said.
“I share this great honour with my family, my team in the Senate, and all Filipinos who believe in strong and enduring relations between our two nations.”
