Well, this isn’t a headline that surprises anyone—it feels like everyone saw it coming.
Jay-Z, aka Shawn Carter, has been named in a lawsuit accusing him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl after an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in 2000.
This case isn’t exactly coming out of left field for either mogul. Filed by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, the lawsuit initially targeted Combs back in October but was refiled Sunday to include Carter.
According to the accuser she was driven to the after-party where the alleged assault happened. For Jay-Z, who’s often been the subject of industry rumors, this lawsuit just turned those whispers into legal documents.
Meanwhile, Combs’ legal woes have only gotten worse. The man is already facing nearly 20 civil lawsuits and federal charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering. If convicted, he’s looking at life in prison—and not the kind with luxury suites. Even after offering a $50 million bond, Combs remains stuck at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting his trial in May 2025.
Neither Combs’ nor Jay-Z’s representatives have addressed these allegations. While the industry watches in stunned silence (and maybe a few side-eyes), this lawsuit underscores how accountability is finally catching up with some of the biggest names in music.
