President Bongbong Marcos led the groundbreaking of subway stations in Bonifacio Global City, underscoring his administration’s push to modernize public transport and confront Metro Manila’s long-standing traffic problems through sustained infrastructure development.
During the ceremony, Marcos said the Metro Manila Subway Project is expected to significantly reduce travel time across the capital. “Once this is finished, it will take about 30 minutes to cross the city,” he said, describing the project as a direct response to the daily congestion faced by commuters.
He noted that long travel hours continue to affect productivity, family time, and overall quality of life.
Marcos said the subway reflects years of planning and coordination aimed at delivering a transport system suited for a growing urban population. “This will change the way people travel,” he said, pointing to the importance of reliable mass transport in easing road congestion and improving mobility.
He added that efficient transport is essential to economic growth, as it allows people and goods to move faster and more predictably.
The BGC stations form part of the larger Metro Manila Subway Project, which will link major business districts, residential areas, and transport hubs through an underground rail network. Marcos said the project shows the government’s commitment to completing large and complex infrastructure that delivers practical, everyday benefits to commuters, particularly workers who spend hours on the road.
He stressed that the administration remains focused on execution and follow-through. Marcos said coordination among government agencies and project partners is crucial to ensure the subway is completed on schedule and meets its intended goals.
As construction begins on the BGC stations, Marcos framed the subway as a long-term investment in the country’s future. He said projects like this are meant to produce visible improvements in daily life, with shorter travel times serving as one of the clearest signs that progress is being made.
