President Bongbong Marcos marked 80 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the United States by reaffirming Manila’s commitment to a long-standing alliance that he said remains central to regional security and shared prosperity.
Speaking at Malacañang, Marcos unveiled the official logo commemorating eight decades since the two countries formally established ties on July 4, 1946, setting the tone for a year of anniversary activities.
Marcos framed the milestone as more than a ceremonial marker. He described the partnership as one built through history but sustained by continued engagement, saying the alliance would move forward with stronger conviction and commitment to the security, prosperity, and resilience of both nations and the wider region. His remarks positioned the relationship as active and evolving, rather than anchored solely in the past.
He pointed to the broad scope of cooperation that has defined Philippines–United States relations over the years. Marcos cited defense and security collaboration alongside economic cooperation, as well as newer areas such as cybersecurity and space, as examples of how the partnership has expanded in response to changing global conditions.
He also linked the anniversary to the upcoming 250th year of American independence, noting that the Philippines has worked closely with the United States for much of that period.
The President stressed that the strength of the alliance is the result of sustained effort. He highlighted ongoing engagement across bilateral, multilateral, and unilateral channels as key to deepening cooperation and advancing shared interests. According to Marcos, this steady approach has allowed both countries to reinforce trust and adapt the partnership to emerging challenges.
Marcos also recalled his visit to Washington last year, where he was invited to The White House during the second term of U.S. President Donald J. Trump. He said the visit reaffirmed the foundations of the alliance and underscored its relevance as both countries navigate a shifting strategic landscape.
As the anniversary year begins, Marcos cast the 80-year milestone as a reaffirmation of direction. For his administration, the Philippines–United States relationship remains a strategic partnership shaped by history and carried forward by shared priorities and continued cooperation.
