The government is moving to strengthen broadband connectivity and improve internet services nationwide, with President Bongbong Marcos framing digital access as a basic requirement rather than a convenience.
Marcos said reliable internet is now central to education, work, business, and access to government services, and gaps in connectivity continue to limit opportunities for many Filipinos. He stressed that improving speed, reach, and service quality remains a priority of his administration. “Sa panahon ngayon, hindi na privilege ang pagkakaroon ng access sa mabilis na internet, ito ay pangangailangan na,” the President said.
The reforms focus on removing long-standing obstacles that slowed internet expansion and affected service quality. Marcos said the changes aim to streamline processes, reduce costs tied to broadband rollout, and improve coordination among stakeholders. The goal is to deliver tangible improvements that users can feel, particularly in areas where internet access remains limited or unreliable.
Marcos said stronger connectivity is critical to narrowing the digital divide between urban centers and rural communities. He noted that better internet access allows more Filipinos to take part in online learning, digital work, e-commerce, and other technology-driven activities that support household income and local economies.
The President also pointed to continued efforts to expand free public internet access in schools, transport hubs, and other public spaces. He said these initiatives are meant to ensure that connectivity reaches students, commuters, and communities that struggle to afford regular internet subscriptions.
Marcos said improved internet services also support governance by making public services and information more accessible. He noted that digital platforms can improve efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness across government transactions.
He called on stakeholders to sustain cooperation with the government as reforms move forward, saying progress depends on consistent implementation and shared responsibility. “These reforms are about making sure every Filipino can connect, learn, work, and compete,” Marcos said.
The administration said it will continue monitoring the rollout of reforms to ensure that improvements translate into faster, more reliable, and more accessible internet services nationwide, reinforcing digital inclusion as a pillar of long-term economic growth.
