Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso has announced that the city government will begin releasing more than ₱25 million in long-delayed allowances for public school teachers and non-teaching staff starting October 7.
The payout is set to benefit over 11,000 personnel under the Manila Schools Division Office, following several months of delay that left many educators waiting for their entitled benefits.
The release will be done in tranches, ensuring that funds reach eligible personnel as soon as possible.
According to the city government, the delay was caused by budget constraints, but through intensified revenue collection and tighter fiscal management, the city was able to secure the necessary funding to push through with the disbursement.
Moreno said the move reflects the city’s appreciation for its educators’ hard work and commitment. “Ito ay munting pasasalamat ng inyong pamahalaang lungsod sa inyong sakripisyo at dedikasyon sa paghubog ng kinabukasan ng ating lungsod at bansa,” he said.
The mayor also acknowledged the frustrations caused by the delay and promised that the city would work to prevent such setbacks in the future.
“Pasensya na rin po sa pagkaantala, at bagaman hindi pa buo ang ating maibibigay, sisikapin po natin na maibalik ang normal na takbo ng ating pamahalaan mula sa krisis pinansyal na ating pinagdaraanan,” Moreno explained.
The announcement coincides with World Teachers’ Day, which Moreno described as the perfect occasion to honor Manila’s public school teachers for their service and resilience.
“Happy World Teacher’s Day po sa mga minamahal nating guro. Salamat po sa inyong walang sawang pagmamahal at pagtuturo sa ating mga anak. Mabuhay po kayo!” he added.
