Four devotees from the LGBT community joined thousands of Catholics during the annual feast of the Black Nazarene, waiting more than 15 hours at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila to take part in the religious gathering.
The group lined up alongside other devotees ahead of the procession, which draws large crowds each year as participants engage in prayer, penance, and thanksgiving. Like many in attendance, they endured long hours and crowded conditions as part of their devotion.
The four carried placards expressing that God’s love extends to all genders and said their participation in the Nazareno feast was rooted in faith and personal religious practice. They shared that taking part in the gathering was important to them both as Catholics and as members of the LGBT community.
According to the group, their time in the queue passed without disruption. They said fellow devotees allowed them space to participate in the activities, enabling them to complete their visit alongside others in the crowd.
The feast of the Black Nazarene is one of the largest religious events in the Philippines, with thousands gathering days before the main procession. Security personnel and event organizers implemented crowd management measures throughout the area to accommodate the large number of participants.
