Senator Robin Padilla will continue to take firm stances on issues despite potential political risks, his lawyer said, as the lawmaker faces criticism and misunderstanding from the public.
Atty. Rudolf Philip Jurado, Padilla’s chief of staff, said the senator is often “misunderstood” on certain matters but remains committed to his positions. Speaking during a press briefing in Cebu City, Jurado said Padilla does not shy away from difficult issues even when they provoke strong reactions.
“The senator does not hesitate to raise and advocate for issues that others may consider taboo, unpopular, or politically risky. He does so even when these positions may run counter to his own political interests, his allies, or prevailing public sentiment,” Jurado said.
The remarks came amid ongoing public debate over some of Padilla’s statements and actions that have drawn mixed responses. The senator has faced criticism for positions that some groups view as controversial, while his camp maintains that these are often taken out of context.
Jurado said Padilla’s approach is shaped by his view of public service and reform. “The Senator’s record shows a consistent willingness to engage in difficult conversations and legislative reforms based on what he believes to be in the national interest, regardless of political consequences,” he said.
According to Jurado, Padilla remains focused on advancing issues he believes matter to the public, even when doing so invites backlash. He added that the senator understands the political cost of his views but accepts it as part of his role.
Padilla has taken visible roles in several national discussions, frequently placing him at the center of public attention. His approach has drawn strong reactions from both critics and supporters.
Despite continued scrutiny, Jurado said Padilla plans to maintain his approach and continue speaking out on issues he considers important.
