The Palace said it is coordinating with Interpol as efforts intensify to locate and return high-profile fugitives who fled the country, including former lawmaker Zaldy Co.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the government is using all available means to bring fugitives back to face cases in the Philippines. “Sa parte po ng gobyerno natin, ginagawa natin ang lahat ng paraan para mapauwi ang mga fugitives,” Castro said Tuesday.
Castro said Philippine authorities are already working with Interpol and are awaiting its response. “Nakikipag-cooperate at nakikipag-coordinate na tayo sa Interpol. We are just awaiting response from the Interpol,” she said.
Zaldy Co left the country after being heavily implicated in the flood control scandal. Authorities have continued efforts to track his whereabouts as the investigation moves forward.
The Palace said cooperation with international law enforcement remains active and ongoing. “So tayo naman ay naging maganda namang ka-partner ng Interpol, at ang Interpol naman ay ginagawa din nila ang mandato nila,” Castro said.
Castro said the government remains confident that fugitives will be found and returned. “Makakaasa po tayo na mapapauwi ang mga fugitives dito,” she said.
