Bongbong Marcos has authorized the creation of three new special economic zones in Parañaque City, Laguna, and Misamis Oriental, a move the government says will attract more than ₱3 billion in investments and generate thousands of jobs.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto signed three proclamations establishing an information technology hub in Aseana City, an agro-industrial estate in Medina town, and a manufacturing and innovation park in Calamba City.
The Office of the Executive Secretary said the three ecozones are projected to attract a combined ₱3.03 billion in investments and generate up to 7,200 jobs once fully operational.
Under Proclamation No. 1111, a 10-hectare property along Asean Avenue in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City is converted into an information technology economic zone. The project is projected to draw ₱254.16 million in investments and provide around 1,800 jobs.
Proclamation No. 1112 establishes an agro-industrial economic zone covering parcels of land along National Road in Barangays Cabug and Maanas in Medina, Misamis Oriental. The 19-hectare estate, to be known as the Alloco Development Corp. Industrial Estate, is expected to attract ₱1.2 billion in investments and generate at least 1,000 jobs once industries become operational.
Proclamation No. 1113 creates the Filinvest Innovation Park in Barangays Bubuyan and Punta in Calamba City, Laguna, positioning the area as a manufacturing and innovation hub.
Marcos said the new ecozones are intended to expand employment opportunities nationwide. “It will generate job opportunities not only for our countrymen in these areas, but for all Filipinos across the country,” he said.
Special economic zones allow registered enterprises to receive fiscal and non-fiscal incentives depending on location and industry priority. These zones include industrial estates, export processing zones, information technology parks, and other specialized developments.
The ecozones will operate in accordance with Republic Act No. 7916, or the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995, as amended, and will be regulated by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority. The proclamations followed the recommendation of the PEZA board of directors.
