The Battle for TikTok: Big Players Like Musk, MrBeast, and O’Leary Eye the Platform

TikTok’s U.S. operations are caught in a high-stakes showdown, and the players eyeing the prize read like a billionaire’s fantasy league: Elon Musk, YouTube phenom MrBeast, and Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary.

Add in Perplexity AI’s merger pitch and Donald Trump’s idea of a government stake, and you’ve got a drama more intense than your For You page during a viral dance trend.

The Billionaires Are Circling

Elon Musk, who’s no stranger to bold acquisitions, hasn’t officially commented on buying TikTok, but speculation swirls. Bloomberg reports Beijing may warm to the idea of Musk taking over TikTok’s U.S. operations, thanks to his extensive dealings with China.

For Musk, TikTok would be more than just another feather in his cap—it’s a potential data goldmine for training his xAI projects.

Meanwhile, YouTube’s biggest name, MrBeast (a.k.a. Jimmy Donaldson), hinted at a serious bid. What started as a joke quickly escalated into meetings with actual billionaires.

If his TikTok takeover happens, he’d be the youngest CEO to run a $100 billion platform—and probably the only one who’d give away a Lamborghini on a livestream.

Trump, O’Leary, and the Government Card

Donald Trump’s return to the White House brought TikTok back under scrutiny. ByteDance’s Chinese ownership continues to stoke fears about data security, with Trump hinting at a 50% government stake in TikTok to keep operations transparent.

Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary also enters the conversation as a potential buyer, touting his business acumen as the key to managing TikTok’s explosive growth.

TikTok’s official stance? It’s committed to working with U.S. officials to secure a “long-term solution.” Whether that involves a new owner, a merger, or partial government control remains uncertain.

A Platform’s Future in the Balance

With billions of dollars, global influence, and national security concerns on the line, TikTok’s U.S. operations are shaping up to be the ultimate prize. Whether it’s Musk, MrBeast, O’Leary, or a new wildcard entrant, the question isn’t just who will take over but how the platform will evolve in the hands of its next steward.
