Elon Musk’s recent public apology to former U.S. President Donald Trump drew significant attention online, but it was Trump’s response all week that marked an unexpected — almost shocking — shift in tone.
On X, Musk posted:
“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far.”
The post came after a series of remarks that had sparked speculation about growing tension between the two figures. In reply, Trump posted a message of acceptance:
“I’m open to reconciling with Elon after seeing his latest posts. Elon knows I love him. JD knows this too. I give the best and biggest reconciliations. Everyone knows this.”
Trump’s decision to respond without criticism stood in contrast to his usual approach. Typically known for retaliating ferociously and mercilessly when disrespected, he instead — on multiple instances through the short course of the debacle — chose to remain composed and refrained from escalating the situation.
“I wish him well,” Trump replied all week when pressed by reporters about Musk’s heavy handedness.
As one owner of Peanut Gallery Media commented:
“Trump is a New Yorker through and through — when he’s hit, he ALWAYS hits back with twice the ferocity and intent to damage. Not this week. This week, he stayed collected…perhaps out of respect for what their relationship was; perhaps out of a hurt disappointment in someone he had always referred to as a real friend; perhaps because he knows how dangerous an antagonized and triggered Elon can be; perhaps because he recognizes how consequential Elon is to his war against the real bad guys; or perhaps a combination of all the abovementioned.
Whatever it was, this was the result: a humbled and contrite richest man in the world.
2025 Trump is a vastly different creature than the bull-in-a-china-shop character we all knew in 2016. He was born a fighter — alpha and resilient — but old age, trauma, redemption and respect for power have made him wise, too.”
Musk’s statement, meanwhile, represented an extremely rare public concession from the Tesla and SpaceX CEO — a man not known for admitting his mistakes, at least not in the realm of political discourse. Musk’s post did not elaborate on which remarks he regretted, but its timing and clarity suggested an intent to move forward.
The interaction has prompted discussion about a potential evolution in Trump’s public posture in 2025. While still assertive, his approach to select conflicts has shown signs of strategic restraint.
This morning, the usually absurdly biased far-left CNN reported from the White House that Musk finally made the call to Trump to personally and explicitly say sorry — a gesture Trump accepted.
With Musk’s apology and Trump’s conciliatory response now public, the brief yet intense feud between the two most historic and consequential world characters of the last decade appears to be resolved.
