Pasig City has entered into an agreement with GCash to speed up the release of financial assistance for beneficiaries of its scholarship programs, Mayor Vico Sotto said.
Sotto said the partnership aims to address delays in payouts, particularly under the Pasig City Scholarship (PCS) program. The city government reported that the total number of scholars, including those under PCS, DOST-PAGASA, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig, has reached around 30,000.
The agreement forms part of a broader effort to streamline internal processes. Pasig City previously rolled out a PCS Portal, which underwent pilot testing during the first semester of academic year 2025 to 2026. Based on feedback from scholars, the system is being refined to improve application and disbursement procedures.
Sotto said the city expects improvements in the scholarship process within the next one to two semesters as a result of the partnership and ongoing system upgrades.
The deal also includes efforts to promote digital payments in the city, particularly in the Pasig Mega Market. The initiative is intended to expand the use of cashless transactions in local government services and public spaces.
The signing of the agreement took place on April 6, with representatives from Pasig City and GCash in attendance. The city government said the partnership is part of its push to improve efficiency in service delivery through digital systems.
