With Esports gaining massive popularity in the Philippines, Senate Majority Leader and senatorial candidate Francis “TOL” Tolentino is championing the cause by organizing the inaugural “Click na Click si TOL” invitational tournament.

This event, featuring Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and Call of Duty Mobile (CODM), provides young gamers with a competitive stage to showcase their skills.

“This tournament is for our youth! We know that mobile gaming has evolved into a global community. We have Esports as official events in collegiate leagues. It has debuted at the Southeast Asian Games, the Asian Games, and soon at the Olympics,” Tolentino emphasized.

Tolentino’s Vision for Esports in the Philippines

Tolentino, an advocate for youth engagement, has also incorporated Esports into the annual Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games. His initiative underscores the discipline, teamwork, and strategic thinking that Esports fosters among young Filipinos.

“Filipino gamers are acknowledged among the best in our region, if not the world. We are highly skilled and competitive. By organizing the very first ‘Click na Click si TOL’ tournament, we are giving young players an opportunity to showcase their talent,” he added.

Strengthening Digital Infrastructure for Gamers

Understanding the vital role of digital infrastructure, Tolentino is pushing for stronger connectivity through amendments to the ‘Konektadong Pinoy’ Bill and Senate Bill 2972, which seeks to grant a 20-percent student discount for digital communication and internet services.

“We cannot afford to fall behind in digital infrastructure. It is for this reason that I’m pushing for stronger connectivity across the country,” Tolentino explained.

The tournament, hosted at the Dasmariñas Arena in Cavite, attracted a large number of Esports teams and players, highlighting the country’s enthusiasm for competitive gaming.

“We hope to see the next batch of elite e-athletes emerge from this tournament who could someday bring honor to our country in international Esports competitions,” he concluded.
