A late-night drive on a California highway has now led to a more serious turn in Britney Spears situation. Authorities reported that the singer was driving erratically at high speed before being pulled over and showing signs of impairment.
She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, then released hours later as the case moved forward. Weeks after the incident, Spears voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility in the United States ahead of her scheduled May 4 court appearance.
Authorities said the incident began after reports of a black BMW speeding along U.S. 101 in Ventura County. Officers located Spears, who was alone in the vehicle, and conducted field sobriety tests after observing signs of impairment. She was then taken into custody on suspicion of DUI involving both alcohol and drugs.
Reports indicate that people close to Spears had been encouraging her to seek treatment, which she eventually agreed to pursue. Her entry into rehab came shortly before her upcoming court date, placing her response under closer public attention.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears’ representative acknowledged the severity of the situation while outlining her next steps. The statement added that she plans to comply with the law and take steps toward change.
Spears’ entry into rehabilitation follows a history of public struggles, including past treatment stays in 2007 and 2008.
Her personal life later drew renewed attention during the conservatorship that controlled her affairs for over a decade until it ended in 2021. She is expected to appear in court in early May as the case proceeds.
