Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez was recently spotted at Mitsukoshi Mall in Bonifacio Global City, according to photos circulating online.
The images show Romualdez dining inside one of the mall’s restaurants with an unidentified female companion. The photos quickly spread across social media, where the former House Speaker remains one of the most closely watched figures in Philippine politics.
The sighting comes as public discussion surrounding Romualdez continues following a series of widely viewed Peanut Gallery Media Network releases that revisited the flood-control controversy, the extortion case involving PGMN Founder and CEO Franco Mabanta and four PGMN associates, and the broader questions of accountability surrounding one of the country’s most influential political figures.
The first of those releases came from PGMN Lead Anchor CJ Hirro, whose explosive #MartinLooterFund episode delivered one of the network’s most aggressive examinations yet of Martin Romualdez, his wife Rep. Yedda Romualdez, and the flood-control controversy. Through congressional records, appropriations documents, flood-control allocations, spending reports, and budget data, Hirro examined what she portrayed as a deeply troubling culture inside the House of Representatives during Martin Romualdez’s tenure as Speaker. The episode scrutinized allegations of budget padding, questioned the handling of billions of pesos in taxpayer funds, and examined the role played by both Martin and Yedda Romualdez in what Hirro argued was the transformation of the House into an institution increasingly consumed by politics, patronage, and power. Throughout the presentation, Hirro argued that the controversy extends far beyond a single budget item or government program and instead raises larger questions about accountability, transparency, and the condition of the House of Representatives under the Romualdez political network.

That was followed by a sweeping address from PGMN Founder and CEO Franco Mabanta, which quickly became one of the most successful releases in the network’s history. In just four days, the episode generated a combined 2.5 million views across PGMN’s platforms, making it one of the fastest-growing audience responses the organization has ever recorded. Over the course of more than an hour, Mabanta discussed the extortion case filed against him and four PGMN associates, detailed the events leading up to his arrest, challenged public narratives surrounding the controversy, and argued that the legal battle involving PGMN cannot be separated from the network’s continuing coverage of Martin Romualdez and the flood-control issue. The episode revisited the flood-control controversy, discussed what Mabanta described as efforts to discredit the network, challenged narratives circulating online about PGMN, and examined what he argued were attempts to shift public attention away from the allegations, investigations, and accountability questions linked to the former House Speaker. Throughout the address, Mabanta repeatedly returned to the same point: that the story of Martin Romualdez, the flood-control issue, and the questions raised by PGMN remain unresolved and deserve continued public scrutiny.

PGMN Anchor and former Comelec Commissioner Atty. Rowena Guanzon later completed the trilogy with a sweeping examination of Martin Romualdez’s political rise and current troubles. Her episode traced his journey from member of one of the country’s most influential political dynasties to becoming one of the most powerful Speakers of the House in modern Philippine history. Guanzon discussed his relationship with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the political machinery that helped fuel his rise, and the influence he accumulated at the height of his power. The episode then turned to the controversies that now surround his career, including the flood-control issue, testimony from former allies, the plunder and graft complaints filed against him, and his public declaration that he would not allow himself to become a “scapegoat.” Framed as the story of a politician who once stood at the peak of Philippine political power, the presentation examined how a figure once viewed as a leading contender for the presidency now finds himself confronting the most serious political and legal challenges of his public life.

Together, the three releases generated significant engagement online and placed both the flood-control controversy and the extortion case involving Mabanta and four PGMN associates at the center of national discussion. While each episode approached the issue from a different angle, all three ultimately returned to the same questions: accountability, public trust, and the unresolved issues that continue to surround one of the country’s most influential political figures.
Romualdez has denied wrongdoing and has previously maintained that he should not be made a scapegoat for issues connected to the controversy.
The former House Speaker has not publicly commented on the photographs circulating online.
Corruption has long been one of the Philippines’ deepest governance problems, and the Romualdez investigation now places one of the country’s most powerful political figures at the center of a major test for accountability.
