Akbayan Party-list Representative Chel Diokno pushed for swift accountability following the arrest of former Congressman Zaldy Co, calling on authorities to immediately move toward his return and ensure he faces charges in the Philippines.
Diokno said the government must act without delay to bring Co under Philippine jurisdiction so court proceedings can proceed. He warned that prolonged gaps between charges and enforcement weaken cases and allow those accused to gain advantage, stressing that the arrest should have been carried out earlier given the gravity of the allegations.
He also called on Co to directly address his previous testimonies tied to issues surrounding the 2025 national budget and questioned flood control projects flagged as anomalous. The controversy centers on the handling of infrastructure funds, with concerns raised over how allocations were used and whether projects delivered their intended purpose.
